Biodiversity in the Churchyard

Saturday 12th June 2021 Biodiversity survey St Michael's graveyard

We are so grateful to John Owen who is a postgraduate student at Harper Adams University studying insect ecology. John set up a moth trap on Friday 11 June and we got over 50 moths the next day – 23 different species.

In addition we used "Picture This" to do a shrub and tree survey and pitfall traps to monitor ground dwelling insects. We used a net food cover to monitor bush dwelling insects.

Lots of beetles and springtails in the pitfall traps.

Crane flies (we think) in the bushes.

Trees: cherry plum, yew, small leaved lime, ornamental cherry, holly.
