Safeguarding - Children, Young People and Vulnerable adults
‘The Church of England is called to share the good news of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ. The life of our communities and institutions is integral to how we address this task. The good news speaks of welcome for all, with a particular regard for those who are most vulnerable, into a community where the value and dignity of every human being is affirmed and those in positions of responsibility and authority are truly trustworthy. Being faithful to our call to share the gospel therefore compels us to take with the utmost seriousness the challenge of preventing abuse from happening and responding well where it has.’
From ‘Promoting a Safer Church’, The Church of England’s Safeguarding Policy Statement
At St Michael's Church we are committed to offering a warm and safe welcome to everyone who attends our church, and to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and are committed to implementing all safeguarding policies and practice guidance issued by the House of Bishops. We have adopted the national policies and Practice Guidance for Safeguarding within the Church of England and have published a Parish Safeguarding Policy Statement which can be found here.
Our Parish Safeguarding Handbook can be found here.
Our Parish Safeguarding Officer is Ivor Thomas and anyone who has any safeguarding concerns about the safety and welfare of a child, young person or vulnerable adult should go to our Safeguarding Information Sheet for details of who to contact. This can be found here.
